The XL-PD15-21C-TR is a 3215 package (3.2×1.5×1.0mm) surface-mount infrared photodiode (PD) with a clear encapsulant. It has a peak sensitivity wavelength of 940nm and a response range of 700–1100nm. This device is a photosensitive diode (not a phototransistor), and its output photocurrent changes linearly with the intensity of the received infrared light. It's suitable for SMT reflow soldering, meets RoHS environmental standards, and has a moisture sensitivity level of MSL 3. Paired with the same series 3215 infrared emitter (XL-IR15-21CTR), it forms a complete optical transmission/reflection detection setup, making it an ideal receiver for applications like photoelectric switches, light barriers, and smoke detectors.

Optical Performance:
Peak Response Wavelength (λP): 940nm
Response Wavelength Range (λ1/2): 700~1100nm (covers mainstream infrared bands and compatible with 940nm/850nm emitters)
Photocurrent (IL): 0.2~0.9μA (λP=940nm, VR=5V, Ee=1mW/cm?, see datasheet for grading details)
Open-Circuit Voltage (VOC): Typical 0.42V (Ee=5mW/cm?)
Dark Current (ID): ≤10nA (VR=10V, no light, low dark current ensures high signal-to-noise ratio)
Electrical Parameters (Ta=25℃):
Maximum Power Consumption (PC): 150mW
Maximum Reverse Voltage (VR): 32V
Reverse Breakdown Voltage (BVR): ≥32V (IR=100μA, no light)
Operating Temperature: -20℃~85℃
Storage Temperature: -40℃~85℃
Soldering Conditions: Reflow ≤260℃ for 6s, Manual ≤300℃ for 3s
Environment & Reliability:
Passed 1000 hours lifetime, high temperature & humidity, thermal cycling and other reliability tests (see page 7 of datasheet)
Supports photocurrent grading (IB-1 grade: 0.2~1.0μA) for easier batch consistency selection
Others:
Transparent colloid packaging, no visible light filtering, wider receiving angle (due to no black colloid blocking), but more sensitive to ambient light (visible)
EIA standard tape and reel packaging, suitable for high-speed SMT placement
Moisture-proof and anti-static sealed packaging, recommended to use within 7 days after opening
Smart products and home appliances: iris recognition, smart door locks, proximity sensing
Infrared emitting miniature light barrier: object detection, position sensing, counting
Floppy disk drive: disk rotation detection, write protection detection
Photoelectric switch: industrial automation, security detection
Smoke detector: photoelectric smoke alarm (used with infrared emitter)
Infrared sensor: pyroelectric infrared (PIR) support, infrared communication reception
